Characterisation of the particle size and particle shape for smallest amounts of dry, active substances from 1.8 µm to 500 µm with dynamic image analysis
In combination with the fully-automated dry dispersion unit RODOS/L and the micro dosing unit ASPIROS/L, the image analysis sensor QICPIC offers reliable and fast analyses of the particle size and particle shape for smallest amounts of active substances that are available as dry powders in sizes ranging from 1.8 µm to 500 µm.
All measurement and dispersion parameters are software-controlled and can be saved as retrievable measuring methods (Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)). In this way, measurements are reliable, true-to-method and independent of the operator, even if the product and application are changed frequently.
The dosing of small amounts of powdery, active substances is performed with the micro dosing unit ASPIROS, which reliably makes the sample available in previously filled glass tubes. The sample tubes can be filled with just a few micrograms and safely sealed in a glove box or under an extraction hood. Once encapsulated in this way, the sample tube is placed in the ASPIROS and a bar code reader identifies the sample. The dispersion conditions saved in the SOP are automatically set up, the sample tube in the closed ASPIROS is opened and the sample is aspirated into the RODOS injector for analysis. When the system is closed there is no contact between the product and the surrounding environment. The perfectly separated particles in the free aerosol jet are exposed with an exposure time in the nanosecond range and recorded with a frequency of up to 500 frames per second. The subsequent evaluation returns all relevant size and shape characteristics, and the results can be presented both as a distribution and individually for every single particle.
The modular concept of the QICPIC image analysis sensors allows this configuration to be systematically expanded with numerous dispersion units and dosing options to open up many more product-appropriate measuring applications.
